Structural System Integration

SilvaSpan’s mass-produced NLT is used primarily for floor and roof structural systems. NLT is ideal for commercial, institutional, and multi-residential applications that use structural steel, glulam post-and-beam systems and light-gauge steel systems.

SilvaSpan NLT panels can also be used in vertical applications, whether structural or non-structural.

Structural Steel

Replace conventional metal decks with SilvaSpan’s NLT to expedite trade access and benefit from a completely moisture-resistant solution during and after installation.

Glulam Post and Beam

Combine SilvaSpan’s NLT with traditional glulam posts and beams to ensure a seamless integration as one complete floor or roof system.

Standard NLT Sizes

Common dimension lumber sizes used in NLT manufacturing are commonly referred to as 2”x4”, 2”x6”, 2”x8”, 2”x10” or 2”x12”. SilvaSpan’s proprietary manufacturing process uses finger-jointing to increase the length of NLT panels to 60 feet (18.3 metres) long.

Custom Profiles

SilvaSpan NLT panels can be manufactured to have standard flat profiles and a wide range of other design profiles to suit your structure’s requirements: fluted and even embedded with acoustic material.

Our manufacturing facility can also produce wider laminations, up to 2-1/4″ wide!

Acoustic Profiles

Acoustic

Creates a stunning feature for large, open atrium spaces. Acoustic material is installed between each lamination, ensuring superior sound absorption properties over standard NLT or CLT products.

Fluted

A rhythmic series of channels creates a remarkable ceiling pattern customized to the needs of your specific project. The result is a timeless delight of aesthetically pleasing art.

Heritage Milldeck

This traditional NLT design uses flush laminations and wider planks to deliver a striking alternative to other mass timber products while allowing for surface finishes that reveal the timber species’ unique grains.

Architectural Elements

Transform utilitarian elements into unique architectural masterpieces with NLT, whether you seek stunning floor panels, flat roofs, overhangs or fluted roofs. Even cantilevers can be built with NLT, which can span further in one direction than CLT since NLT wood fibres are aligned in the same direction.

Fully Coated Finishes

While most mass-timber elements are finished after installation, each piece of dimensional lumber used in a SilvaSpan NLT panel is fully coated on all sides before assembly. Custom stains and coatings are also available for an elegant look to suit your project.

Common Wood Species

SilvaSpan recommends wood species such as Spruce-Pine-Fir (SPF), Douglas Fir, Southern Yellow Pine, Western Cedar and Alaskan Yellow Cedar (AYC). Our proprietary press allows wood cutoffs as small as 9” using a variety of species.
